Analysis of Transmission Depth and Photon Number in Monte Carlo Simulation for Underwater Laser Transmission

The modeling of laser transmission characteristics in complex seawater is fundamental for bathymetric and oceanographic detection systems. Because the factors affecting are independent one another, firstly, this paper, a Monte Carlo model propagation seawaters with suspended matter was established to study influence specific radius on underwater transmission. Secondly, depth number photons extinction coefficients containing different concentrations were analyzed, respectively. Thirdly, relationships between maximum depth, initial photons, built verified by simulations. Lastly, an experimental platform set up experiments carried out verify relationships. Results show that (1) both minimum photon depend exponentially matter; (2) obtained those consistent. absolute values differences less than 0.028 m−1, implying proposed effective simulating number, have better accuracies, which valuable simulations attenuation seawater. method paper can also be extended solids other radii improve simulation accuracy decrease time consumption.
